Why create a text-only version of my email?
Text versions
are important and should be created for every email campaign. Spam filters look
for HTML-only emails (emails without a plain-text version) as this is a sign of
unsolicited spam. Plain-text emails are an “alternative” to HTML in a
multi-part email. If the ISP/email client doesn’t display the HTML email properly
(which is common on cell phone email clients), then the ISP/email client will
likely default to the text-only version of the email.
Transactional
messages should almost always be text-only. Some people still prefer plain text
emails also, so it helps to have one available. Spend time carefully
communicating all the information that the HTML version of your email would have
displayed with images. Spam filters will compare the content of the HTML and
plain-text versions of your email for consistency.
